Here's to breaking news...

The presence of a wolf population in Colorado is officially public. This is a direct result of the work of Cristina Eisenberg, the High Lonesome Ranch, and a team of qualified wildlife trackers. This is a great example of the relevance of wildlife tracking in conservation biology. Enjoy & celebrate.

Hey Trackers,

There was a post on here earlier about this Wildwood site. But here is the link again:
http://wildwoodtracking.com/index.html

If you go here and look to the column on the left side and click on quizzes. There is a long series of tracking quizzes that are just a blast to do! And he gives a nice explanation and interpretation of the answers.

Also, if you send an email to Walter and ask him to add you to the quiz list, you will get an email whenever a new quiz is up.
walter@wildontario.com

Enjoy!

P.S. I have no afilliation with this site whatsoever.

Hello Wildlife Trackers, I know some of you already know -my fiance and I are in the Top 5 (out of 50) in a contest to win a free Green Wedding. We're hoping fellow trackers will support the cause by voting online at the link below. It only takes 10 seconds, so please pass it on if you like what you see. Voting ends February 9th.

http://www.greenweddinggiveaway.com/index-2.html

This is an opportunity to vote for people who are truly making a big difference in the environment as we're environmental educators at White Pine Programs.
I also work in conservation biology.

Thanks so much for reading, voting, & passing it on.

Had a great day tracking in Methow Valley, WA. Saw squirrel, weasel, mule deer, coyote, snow shoe hare, and bobcat. Started trailing bobcat and found a bed, where it curled up and slept out in the open, in snow. continued following around and back and forth, ending up where we started and it started walking in it's own tracks again. Then found a scrape and scat covered, really weird scat. Continued trailing and eventually found a cashe, under a hawthorn tree. Had deer hide, and the back half of a salmon! This was all very well buried. Couldn't believe it, what a stash. The fish explains the very weird scat - probably fish. The treasure at the end of the trail. Purrrrfect ending to the day. To see pictures, go to my page and go into pics, the first 4 snow pics are from that day. Trying to get the picture with salmon to upload.

Just taught a White Pine Program in Southern Maine. Had bobcat, gray fox, coyote, live porcupine, porcupine carcass site visited by fisher 3x, flying squirrels galore, vole, hares, -all in 1cm of powder laid atop a hard crust. A GEM of a day.

I would try both. Seeing the pictures of your spot it seems a great place to clear the litter and see what comes by. It seems you have a lot of acitivity near your spot. good luck and let us know how it goes. :)

Karen,
Great catch. I am very jealous of all the snow tracking that is going on. Here, it just rains. All day, every day... blah. Just about 4 1/2 inches already in January. Should be some good mud somewhere to track in but around my sit spot it is mostly leaf litter. Maybe I will have to make some track traps. What do I do, just clear away the organic layers and expose the dirt underneath? Or do I try to carry sand or something in...?

I just tracked a cougar that came within about 300 paces of my house, but did not cross the road. So fun to track it most certainly gets you listening a feeling the energy around you. I put the pics on my page but here they are again.

I hope those posted :)

I did get a couple of photos of the tracks, I will try to post one tonight when I get home. I did not do a very good job of photographing the rest of the scene though.
