Here's a cool webcam of a hummingbird sitting on her nest. Hummingbird eggs are the size of a Tic-Tac and the nest is about the size of a golfball. The eggs should hatch in the next couple days. 8^)

If anyone happens to be watching when the eggs start to hatch, post a message here to alert us all.

My fiance and I are in the Top 5 (out of 50) in a contest to win a free Green Wedding. We're hoping wilderness awareness folks will support this cause by voting online at the link below. It only takes 10 seconds, so please pass it on if you like what you see. Voting ends February 9th.

Please vote for people who are making a difference for the environment. We're environmental educators at White Pine Programs.

Thanks so much for reading, voting, & passing it on.

Aside from having the local Sulphur-crested Cockatoo community profile me to the point that I can touch the more trusting ones;

I managed to sign and call track to within three metres of a Lyre bird, great fun. Here is a link to an interesting segment on Lyre birds. If you haven't seen the David Attenborough 'Life' series, you should check it out

Hi, I was hoping someone could help me with an id. the other morning something tried, but did not succeed in taking one of our chickens. It flew up onto hte barn and i thought it was a Cooper's hawk. Now I am unsure as I have very large chickens (Autrolorpes, sp?) Would a Cooper's be big enough to take a chicken? The other amazing thing is it has not come back, we have seen lots of Harrier's in the area too but this bird did not have the flatter face and white tail stripe of a harrier. Any other ideas? I am in Southwest Colorado near Durango.

I was kayaking today and two osprey chased off a bald eagle from their little island. I witnessed the osprey doing twists while it was flying. I've watched many osprey but today was a first. My thanks to the osprey...

Hi! I currently live in Chapel Hill, NC. I have put up a Barred Owl bird house. A squirrel family moved in... how can I get an owl to use the house? I listen to their calls every night and they are in my yard (upper limbs of pine trees, where I placed the box) Help?

Hey, Bird Lady! Good to see you around again.

Yes, birds have been my most powerful spiritual teachers too. They also always make me feel welcomed and included in their world.
