I drifted off the path for awhile, finding myself caught up in the day to day pace of the city and not practicing the core routines that I had come to value. Something was missing. Thankfully I recently received a copy of Coyote's Guide and realized that getting back on the path was as simple as walking out my front door. In joining this on-line village, I look forward to the lessons to be learned and shared and the wisdom of members of this tribe.

If anyone is in the DC metro area, please let me know so that we can possibly get in touch. I can be reached at irv.sheffey@sierraclub.org

How wonderful to have a tribe of elders I can join! Last summer I had the joy and privilege of having my 5 year old grandson spend several weeks with me at what I like to call "Grammie-camp"! It was such a thrill to introduce him to the Natural World and share his excitement and "wonder". He learned about Plantain, American Toads & he not only got to get up close and personal with 2 mother Painted Turtles who left the pond to lay their eggs in our yard, but also with a couple of hatchlings who later emerged [2 separate occasions]. He collected bugs in jars. We kept a journal and I am making a Power Point journal of birds, animals, trees, plants & insects he is learning. I also introduced him to my garden and he wants me to plant more purple eggplant this summer. He was willing to try it because he encountered it in the garden.
I have been humbled and awakened to the awesome responsibility we have as grandparents and elders in teaching our grandchildren, so I have joined Kamana to learn more. I told my grandson about it and he is excited too!

I enjoy sharing my love of nature with the children in my life. All children need to be out doors as much as possible! Through Madison Audubon Society, I would like to start a Grandparents/Grandchildren group, and to plan activities in the natural world that we can enjoy together. Let's spread the sense of wonder!

As an elder I am learning to listen. Everyone needs the gift of being heard. Especially the children for in that way they learn their own value.

Getting old to me is passing on my joy and the many gifts from nature to my grandchildren.
