That sounds like a muskrat to me. Muskrat have long thin tails that they swish back and forth when they swim.

This morning I was sitting at my sit spot pond. I have seen both muskrat and beaver in this pond. Something came swimming up and I thought it was a muskrat at first... but it looked too big. I was trying to see the tail and a couple times was thinking I glimpsed a beaver tail. I am not 100% sure but I think I saw my first baby beaver! That made for a fun day...

I had a really good sit spot last night here in Oklahoma. My grandparents live on a golf cours and I went for a walk at dusk with my dog. We found a very nice little hill overlooking a small pond on one side, and some grass lands on the other. I watched a large bird come in to roost in a near by tree, then geese flying low over head. The evening light faded and I rose to go, then I saw something swimming in the pond. The head was about the size of a dinner roll. There aren't beaver. I think it was a rodent though. It dove when it saw me, must have good eye site because it was so dark. Over all, a great observation time.

So I just started the whole sit spot thing this week...bugs have been TERRIBLE...today it poured on me...and I can't really walk more than 40 paces in any direction w/o running into really thick understory and A LOT of poison ivy. On the positive, I've seen a deer, squirrel, eastern cottontail, scarlet tanager, a turtle, egret, & great blue heron, either at my sit spot or on my way in. I'm trying to start the mapping exercises in Kamana Two and would love to get with some other people in the same boat :) - send me a message if you are working on K2 and want some moral support - I know some encouragement would help me!

Hi all,

If you started the 30-Day Sit Spot Challenge on March 15th, and finished today, Day 30...congrats! For me, I have learned a lot and enjoyed reading everyone elses's experiences, also. 30 days seems like a very long time ago. A lifetime. You can never stand in the same stream twice, as the parable goes, and in 30 days that stream of awareness has changed quite a bit.

If you started your Challenge after March 15th or still want to keep posting entries in your journal, it's up to you. It's your journey. We'll keep reading!

It seems to me that anyone can open up a sit journal, here, anytime and decide on their own Challenge time frame. Why not? There'll always be someone around to read it.

Well, I enjoyed it, Challenging as it's been. I'm enormously glad I did it, and hope you are too.

Walk in balance,
deerwoman
