I did a couple of small classes with some slides of ten to twenty common birds and five field guides. Divided the class into five groups so each group had a field guide. I would explain how to use the field guide a little bit and then while I showed…

Jon told this story at one of his Art of Mentoring camps many years ago - and said it was a true story. One of the boys at camp really wanted to find otter tracks. He read everything he could about otters and on the last day of camp at breakfast he…

Excellent! Love this story. I do not know the story of Otter Boy. Can you share it? I work as a Naturalist at Durango Nature Studies and I love telling oral stories. If you can share this story i would be so thankful. Thankyou for your beautiful sto…

I raised a bunch of finches and I found that for my convinence it was better to have a cage with a deep tray that I could fill with corn cob bedding. I like the corn cob bedding because I could just pull out the tray and empty it into a bucket and s…

I wish I could have been one of those boys, experiencing your magic and learning about the tracks you saw! Good job!

I think coyote mentoring showed me how to help kids to love and respect not only nature, but themselves, their family, and their community. By asking questions instead of teaching, or better yet getting a child eager to prove you wrong so they becom…

Pretty neat to see the owl on the fence after it swooped in front of your head lights! I hear barred owls and great horned owls all the time right from our deck but rarely get to see them. One morning I found a perfect screach owl imprint in some fr…

Nice! One day the neighbors dog wouldn't stop barking so I finally went out to chase the cat away (he only barks at cats). Whoops! There were 3 deer on their hind legs, eating from our patio feeder just like in your photo (only I was only 2-3 feet a…

Only the mother does is tall enough for this feeder! I love to watch her balance while she eats the seed. I only put a scoop of seed in each feeder so that it is gone by the end of the day - pretty soon we will be seeing bears - so it's okay if the…

One of our regular's - I put out a scoop of feed out every other day for the deer. They come out of the woods while we eat dinner and we watch them - they only take a little and they all share it nicely. Then in the morning before the sun is up they…

Nice, we had a lone Pine Siskin this week at the Nature Center. Since it was alone, we went through and eliminated all the other possibilities, but with the faint yellow patches, tail shape and color of feet -it had to be a pine siskin, we usually o…

Sunday afternoon I took a walk down to the stream and discovered two young boys having fun in the water, rock hopping, and gathering the small pinecones from the over hanging hemlocks. They were having fun so I did not want to spoil their exploration. I disappeared out of sight and then worked my way pass them up stream and circled back to look for tracks in the spot where I usually find some, and sure enough I saw otter tracks! I was high on the trail through the hemlocks and I so wanted to go… Continue

I do not know. When I called about Nature Talk, they just told me there would be an announcement soon about the new site. I don't know if the old discussions were archived or what.

This is the evolution of Nature Talk. It's a little awkward now, but I suppose we'll get used to it. You should start a Tribe for Native Lore & Culture. I am also looking forward to your photos of the beautiful endless mountains.
