My current guess is raccoon... In the top pic, you can see in the middle set of tracks that a front and rear track are right next to each other, as they walk differently. I'm no pro either...

you betcha, ain't that incredible, a puff ball that is bigger than my head. I'm told that it is edible as long as it hasn't gotten too ripe. We didn't eat it even though we were foraging for our food. The walkabout was a blast for me. I was probably the one that was most at peace with the experience. Not everyone in the group appreciated the psychological journey that we all had. We were walking about the area foothills of the cascades near yakima, an absolutely beautiful area. I would encourage anyone to embark on this journey

Jobs? Well, I guess that would depend on your line of work. I don't know about Asheville but Charlotte unemployment is higher than the national average. We have lots of banks and lots of layoffs. Also, construction took a huge hit. But things like nursing and teaching still seem to be doing well.
We did have some sleet. About 1.5 inches I'd say. I'd rather have snow. I could see deer and my horses tracks, but that was about it. I guess everything else was too light to press through the ice. They say we may have more inclement weather this weekend. Maybe it will actually be snow this time...

Asheville, eh? uh, 4 hours I think. I also think I'm about 4 hours from Wilmington so I'm about right in the middle, but south.Asheville's city slogan is 'altitude affects attitude.' It's a pretty cool place, I must say. There are lots of things to do. All very close are the Pisgah National Forest, the Nantahala river, Blue Ridge Parkway, and the Appalachian Trail! Also, it's the home of American royalty, the Biltmores and the Biltmore Estate which is mega-famous.There is a Renaissance Fair in Charlotte every Fall for a month or so. It's pretty big.
This is a partial list of NC wildlife:

I'm sure it's a lot the same. Some missing, some new. The ocean fish are probably the biggest difference.
One thing that is totally awesome about where you will be is there are wild boars from Russia! These have recently been seen in several areas around where I live so it is just a matter of time...

So glad to connect with someone in NC. I've been trying to find some kamana people out there. I'm trying to get some connection to the land there. any good websites that list the flora of the mtns there. I'm moving to the asheville area. I'm really kind of nervous and excited at the same time. I'm a kamana 4 student and have lived here since 1994. I grew up in Delaware so the comments about poison ivy were familiar. What's ACC? Glad to see the firefly gathering got started! Also found the Earth school down southern NC. How far is that (hrs) to Earth SCHOOL? Great picture ----ARRRRR!

I'm South of Charlotte in the country. I sure you'll love it here. We have the mountains, the piedmont, and the beach. Can't get better than that! The biodiversity here is amazing and plentiful. And schools, ACC! 'nuff said. In what area of NC are you going to be living?

I carry a dirk sometimes and a Bark River Hudson Bay Camp Knife. Depending on if I'm mountain manning it or in a kilt.

That horse is Bo (Evening Edition). He's an amazing endurance horse, Egyptian Arabian. One of the three that T-Bear rode and won the 515 mile Great Santa Fe Trail Horse Race 2008. He's older but wants to just keep going and going. Unfortunately he won't be in Apache when I'm there. If only I had a ranch the owner would give him to me. She brought her two new mares instead and one may be sold by the time I get there. Although, she said that I could get paid to ride other good horses as we get into our next adventure. I'm trying to learn as much as possible about that part of the country for survival and filming. It's gonna be awesome!

The horse standing with me at a race village along the Santa Fe Trail is a Thoroughbred named Prizzy, an excellent endurance horse. On My Page are pictures of me and two different Egyptian Arabians, both excellent endurance horses. Going to Arizona for a couple weeks next month to ride and film. I just love horses and either volunteer or sometimes get paid to ride other peoples horses. Another horse on My Page is Baily, an American Warmblood alpha mare. I worked with her from 3 yrs to 4 1/2. Now the owner has me focused on a two year old gelding, Witch Doctor, also an American Warmblood. His bright blue eyes and crazy white with blue and black markings earned him his name. We call him Doc. He's already as big as a full grown thoroughbred but he is just a 2 year old baby. He's not poorly trained, he's just never been trained, and thus my job begins all over again. I brought him out on his first big trail ride and he was awesome. I realize I don't have any pictures of him and will get some next time out at Kaleidoscope Farm.

It's the Baltimore/Washington Castle, there are 9 around the country now (it all started in Europe). The Maryland Ren Fest is one of the best, it is hosted at a Renaissance village built on a huge property in the country. It truly is a place in a different time where you can climb the castle walls, ride elephants, and watch live jousting (which is the state sport of Maryland). A friend at the Castle is in the SCA. Is that anachronists or anarchists? : ) Are you making your own bow? I'm sure you know there are some excellent archers and bowyers in the community.
